San Diego Dog is Breast Cancer Survivor - Carlsbad, CA Patch

Layla, a friendly black lab, was adopted seven years ago from the San Diego Humane Society.

Six years ago, her owner noticed a lump in the dog's breast. The vet determined Layla had breast cancer and removed one of her breasts.

Layla now resides in Lakeside and lives a perfectly normal dog life cancer-free.

The 11-year-old dog and her owner donate their time with the San Diego Humane Society's K9 Ambassador program, encouraging owners to spay and neuter their pets.?

Her owner told Carlsbad Patch she believes if Layla would have been spayed at a young age, her chances of getting breast cancer would have been much smaller.
